Visitors had to present photo identification and register with team security before entering the facility. And wouldn't you know it: Jake Plummer picked that day to forget his driver's license. …

R.L. White, president of the NAACP's Atlanta chapter, says Michael Vick should be allowed to return to the NFL, preferably the Atlanta Falcons, after serving any sentence for his involvement in dogfighting. Because, White says, the quarterback brings "hours of enjoyment to fans all over the country." And so did "Old Yeller." …

New York Knicks guard Stephon Marbury is defending dogfighting, calling it a sport that compares to hunting. A little bit surprising he'd intentionally anger people who carry guns, but, hey, Marbury is used to it. He played against the Pacers. …

Federal marshals seized a $1.5 million yacht that belonged to Latrell Sprewell after the former NBA star defaulted on the mortgage. The 70-foot Milwaukee's Best will be sold by a New York bank to cover the $1.3 outstanding debt. Apparently, Sprewell was rather emotional. Without P.J. Carlesimo around, he had to settle for choking back tears. …

For a $1 million donation to the Ben Hill Griffin Stadium Renovation Project, University of Florida football boosters will be rewarded with an invitation to visit Coach Urban Meyer's house for dinner with the family. Man, who knew Urban's famous pigs-in-a-blanket was such a prized family recipe? …

Jerome Bettis, the No. 5 rusher in NFL history, claims in a new book that he faked a knee injury during training camp in 2000 so the Pittsburgh Steelers would not cut him and install Richard Huntley as the starter. Only drawback: now the Irish publicity department has to print up three different Heisman Trophy campaigns.
