DeSoto Speedway Hosts Late Model Series

Published: Oct 4, 2007

The ASA Late-Model Series Southern Division comes to Florida for its southernmost visit of 2007.

The Lexington, Mich.-based series will be at the fast 0.375-mile semi-banked paved oval of DeSoto Super Speedway on Friday and Saturday night for the annual SeaFest Late-Model Championships, with the running of the ASA SeaFest 100.

This event will mark the inaugural appearance by the Southern Division at Desoto.

Joining the Southern Division contingent will be the All-American Challenge Series Super Late Models and a host of support divisions, including Modifieds, Street Stocks, Bombers, the Pro Challenge Series, Pure Stocks, Modified Minis, Magic 4's and FAST Mini Cups.

"This is going to be a tough weekend, to say the least, for my ASALMS officials," said Late Model Series co-founder and president Ron Varney. "With the ASALMS North Championships going on the same day up in Wisconsin, we are all going to be split up for the weekend. This weekend will prove that template body/crate engine racing is here to stay, as there will easily be at least 80 ASALMS cars racing on the first weekend in October between the two tracks."

The local All American Challenge Series draws the best talent in Florida for its 16 annual shows, running 125-lap Super Late Model races. But it's the DeSoto Limited Late Model drivers who hope to show their talents this weekend.

Jeff Choquette, last year's AACS winner, is the current ASALMS Southern Division overall and rookie of the year points leader. Choquette edged division regular Chris Fontaine on the final event of the year for his local AACS title.

DeSOTO SUPER SPEEDWAY: The last TBARA running of the Frank Riddle Memorial was a great show with David Steele winning, followed by local rookie of the year contender Brian Gingras. Other winners were Al Newmann (Pro Trucks), Dennis Wilson (Street Stocks), David Davis (Pure Stocks), Rick Germony (Bombers) and Wayne Jefferson (Open Wheel Mods).

USA SPEEDWAY: The Foresters Race For Kids, with the nationally known Crash-O-Rama program, takes center stage this weekend. Events include a flag pole race, boat/trailer race, rollover derby, front stock demo derby, skid car race, jet trucks and motorcycle jump show. EAST BAY RACEWAY PARK: Last week's winners included Roger Crouse (Limited Late Models and Open Wheel Modified), Randy Tyler (4-Cylinder Bombers), Gary Sheffield (Street Stocks) and Shane Burrows (Outlaw 4's).

CITRUS COUNTY SPEEDWAY: Before weather canceled the past three races, the early winners were Travis Hoefler (4-Cylinder Bombers), Steve Hise (Pure Stocks), J.L. Snowden (Fro Pro Challenge Series), Johnny Snyder (Mini-Stocks) and Phillip Rook (Sportsman).

AUBURNDALE SPEEDWAY: Sportsman, Mod-Minis, Street Stock, Mini-Stock, Scrambler, Pro-Scrambler and Road Warrior will be in action this weekend. For more information, call (863) 551-1131.
