Bill Byrd (1907-91)

Birthplace: Ganton, Ga.

Status: Player

Bio: Byrd was nicknamed "Daddy" by Roy Campanella, who caught Byrd for several years with the Baltimore Elite Giants. Byrd's career spanned two decades (1932-50), during which he became a fixture in the East-West All-Star Games and compiled an ERA of 3.37. He also played in the outfield and at first base. During the winter of 1940-41, he won 15 games in the Puerto Rico Winter League.
