• Bio: Johnson earned the nickname "Home Run" as a semi-pro player in his hometown, where he helped found one of the best African-American teams in the Midwest during the 1890s, the Page Fence Giants. The shortstop purportedly hit 60 home runs in one season. After his Giants folded, he moved on to Chicago and other U.S. cities, where he played for many of the best teams of the pre-Negro Leagues Era.
