Roy Parnell (1905-54)

Status: Player/manager

Bio: In 1927, "Red" Parnell batted .415 as a rookie for the Birmingham Black Barons, a Negro Leagues rookie record. It was the start of an accomplished career at the plate, played mostly with the Philadelphia Stars. He had eight seasons of .300 or better and made two appearances in the East-West All-Star Game.
