• Bio: "Spot" Poles was smallish (5-foot-7, 165 pounds) but fast and contemporary accounts compared him favorably with Ty Cobb. Although difficult to verify, Poles is credited with batting .440 in 1911 and .487 in 1914 for the Lincoln Giants. He was a decorated veteran of World War I and is buried in Arlington National Cemetery.
