• Bio: Alejandro Pompez spent his formative years in West Tampa, where his father was one of the community's founders and business leaders. Pompez pioneered the internationalization of the Negro Leagues, stocking his Cuban Stars and New York Cubans with Latino players and bringing top talent from Central America and the Caribbean to the U.S. He later became a scout for the New York Giants, helping initiate the major-league careers of players like Willie McCovey, Orlando Cepeda, Juan Marichal and the Alou brothers, among others.
