Cristobal Torriente (1893-1938) - ELECTED

Birthplace: Cienfuegos, Cuba

Status: Player

Bio: Torriente was known as the Babe Ruth of Cuba, but not because of his physical stature (5-foot-9, 190 pounds), but because his hitting prowess. He batted .339 during his Negro Leagues career, including .402 (or .432; records are disputed) in 1920. He won the Negro Leagues batting title in 1923 (.387) and batted .300 or better in eight seasons.
